Virtual ICM Seminar with Valerie E. Polichar [University of California San Diego]: “Creating a Technology Vision: Planning for the Next Generation of Research Support”

#BigData #blueprint #DigitalUniversity #innovation #ITresearch #ITServices #research

You are cordially invited to a seminar where Valerie E. Polichar will propel you into the future of research IT – which is actually happening right now. Valerie will show us a Digital University – place of learning and discovery, where managing and exploiting vast digital resources is just a mouse-click away.

“Driven by proliferating high throughput instruments, wireless sensor nets, and supercomputer simulations, the amount of digital data at the heart of the modern research enterprise is growing exponentially at UCSD and around the world. Our proposed data‐centric Research Cyberinfrastructure will not only allow us to cope with the data deluge, it will position UCSD to prosper from it, and become an international leader and innovator in this area. “- states UCSD Research Cyberinfrastructure Design Team.

Save the date! The talk will take place online on the March 18th, at 4:00 pm CET.

Valerie E. Polichar is the Senior Director for Academic Technology Services and Senior Academic Technology Officer at the University of California San Diego. She became involved in the campus effort to build a Research Cyberinfrastructure in 2010 while working in the data networking group, and her involvement led to a lead role in a next-generation effort, the Integrated Digital Infrastructure, as well as to the current effort to reimagine research support technologies.

We encourage everyone, especially members of the Academia, to join the seminar. Attendees will take away a how-to approach that can be applied at any research institution to build vision and develop their own strategic plan. Preservation of digital knowledge is vital to the scientific method. Valerie’s talk gives us an opportunity to learn from UCSD experience how to manage a digital transformation of a research university.

About Virtual ICM Seminars
Virtual ICM Seminars in Computer and Computational Science are a continuation of the Supercomputing Frontiers Europe conference, which took place virtually in March 2020 and will be back with the new HPC trends to explore in the summer 2021.

Dates to remember:

  • Supercomputing Frontiers Europe 2021 Conference: July 19-23, 2021
  • Call for Paper deadline: May 16, 2021

Worldwide Open Science online meetings in HPC, Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, BigData, IoT, computer and data networks are a place to meet and discuss with such personalities as Hiroaki Kitano (Systems Biology Institute, Tokyo / Sony Computer Science Laboratories), Stephen Wolfram (Founder & CEO, Wolfram Research), Alan Edelman (MIT), Aneta Afelt (ICM University od Warsaw, Espace-DEV, IRD Montpellier France), Simon Mutch (University of Melbourne) or Scott Aaronson (University of Texas at Austin).

For the listing of all ICM seminars please check this link with recordings.

Since March 2020, over 2400 people have participated in virtual meetings organized by ICM (SCFE + 15 seminars) from almost all the time zones. The website with access to the SCFE and seminars’ recordings, has been viewed by more than 15k visitors from 122 countries.

The organizer of meetings with outstanding scientists is the Interdisciplinary Centre for Mathematical and Computational Modelling (ICM), University of Warsaw.
