The National Supercomputing Centre (NSCC) Singapore has been established as a national facility of petascale standard to support high performance scientific and engineering computing needs in Singapore. NSCC is a state-of-the-art, plug-and-use High Performance Computing (HPC) facility, with computing, multi-petabyte data storage and multi-Gigabit speed network resources to enable users to solve scientific and technological problems. By means of our high speed network connectivity locally and globally, NSCC is stimulating industrial use of computing resources to solve complex problems, test designs and advance technologies and attracting new companies to Singapore. It is a shared facility for all stakeholders in the public sector, the institutions of research and higher learning, and also for the private sector.
Each founding stakeholders of NSCC, namely the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD), have directly plugged their existing infrastructure into this supercomputing facility in our near-user and user-centric approach. Supercomputing login and specialised nodes are emplaced in these locations, including production pipelines facilitating a state-of-the-art genome analytic workflow. This distributed national supercomputing resource will also be able to support high performance visualization needs as they emerge. Critical HPC software will be conveniently available to our users as we collectively negotiate for favourable licensing agreements through demand aggregation.
